Kate loves to paint still life, especially florals, fruit, textiles, ceramics and vessels, using oils on canvas from her home studio. She also is social worker, and lives with her husband, three teenagers, and menagerie of animals.

STILL (of my) LIFE

NOTES FROM THE ARTIST, Kate Quinn. STILL (of my) LIFE is a visual representation of the daily joy I experience in creating art. This collection of items are carefully chosen, each one significant in my art practice. Flowers in vases feature heavily, as she paints them daily, but in this piece there are also textiles, patterned wallpaper, and scattered petals, bathed in light falling on the scene. On closer inspection the viewer of this painting will find personal items such as my AirPods (for the huge amount of podcasts and audiobooks I consumes as I work), snacks (a Freddo Frog is my #1 treat), coffee (skim flat white), a lit scented candle (a daily pre-work ritual) and tea (always made, forgotten when I get distracted on a painting, then drunk cold). My paintbrushes, paper palette, and heavily squeezed tubes of paint are always a messy feature of my painting table.In creating this work, I wanted to make a still life of MY life - hence the title of the piece. This painting is representative of the progress I have made, and the joy I have found, in my new career since leaving my former social work role to take the leap to be an artist full time.
This painting comes professionally framed in natural timber and is ready to hang with a rear wire. This piece is hand signed on the rear and front of the piece. A signed certificate of authenticity will also be included. All my canvases and frames are professional quality, and handmade in Australia. The canvases are stretched over 38mm finger-jointed hoop pine, and the frames are constructed from ethically sourced American Ash. The paints I use are all professional quality oils, varnished in a satin finish. Ready to hang.
